I'm running a mail merge in word 97.  My main document has
some bookmarks.  I want to carry these bookmarks over to
the form letter after the mailmerge.  How can I do this?

As each bookmark in a document must have a unique name, bookmarks will not
survive the execution of the mailmerge.

Tell us what you need the bookmarks for and we may be able to suggest
another way of doing it.

I'm running word automation through visual basic code to
generate annuity contracts.  I have to run the mailmerge 2
times.  The fisrt time is to merge the main contract.  The
second time is to merge the sub accounts section onto the
result main contract.  On the second merge, I need to
retain the bookmarks, so I can insert some fund list there.

See the "Multiple items per condition" item under the "Special merges"
section of fellow MVP CIndy Meister's website at
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/MergFram.htm

You have not given any information about the datasource, but if it was
Access, or you could link the data into tables in Access, then I would do
the whole thing with an Access report.

You can't. Bookmarks must be unique. They cannot possibly be after a
mailmerge so Word strips them.
