I want to create a table of 2 columns using mail merge
with a catalog type. In the main document, I have a table
with 2 col. and 1 row.  In each cell, there is a merge
field.  However, after the merge, word insert
a new line between each row (see result below).  How can I
get rid of that and made the table contiguous?

----------------------------------------------------
Hartford Midcap    | IB Shares of Hartford Midcap Fund |
----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
Hartford Growth    | IA Shares of Hartford Growth Fund |
----------------------------------------------------

In the mailmerge main document, remove the second carriage return ? after
the table.  If there is only one, the data will all be inserted into just
one table.

My table looks fine, if it is placed on the first line of
the main document.  However, when I tried to put a
heading "FUND LIST" on top of the table, then I have the
problem.  The logic is as follow:

{IF {MERGEREC}=1 "FUND LIST"}
----------------------------------------------------
{MERGEFIELD Fund}  | {MERGEFIELD ShareClass}        |
----------------------------------------------------

You will have to do that after you execute the merge.
