Use a combobox or a listbox on a userform instead of the ASK field.
To get started, see the article ?How to create a Userform? at:
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Userforms/CreateAUserForm.htm
Post to the microsoft.public.word.userforms ng if you get stuck.

Thanks. I will look into this.
Will the userform permit me to have an document to be
launched as a result of the selection or will it merely
insert text.
What I also want is to be able to launch two or three
documents depending on the user's selection. For
instance, document #1 would be a certain document and the
user may need other documents as well. Each document
should be able to merge data from the access data base.
I am still learning, but "form" don't permit
modifications to the boilerplate. My document must also
permit this. That is why I thought the ASK function was
the way to go. Again, I am still learning about forms,
userform etc..
Thanks again.

In the userform, you could include check boxes that the user could check if
they way documents from other templates to be created and populated with the
data.
A userform does not require that the document be protected so there are no
restrictions on modifying the "boilerplate" text in the documents that are
created.
