zip codes in mail merge word and exc el

I have a disk with names that have a 9 digit zip code.
When I load the disk and save fields I am saving in zip
code + 4 mode but when doing mail merge I am not getting
zip in this way.It is coming out in just 9 digits no
dash. Please help I am going crazy
