Excel to Word label merge

I have a employee list with names and date of hire, the
hire dates in Excel appear as April 13, 2003 etc.  When
merged they appear as a date 04/13/2003eg. I want the
text to appear DEcember ,April whatever, can you help

You need a switch on the merge field - see
http://www.gmayor.com/formatting_word_fields.htm

In this case the switch would be \@ "MMMM d, YYYY"
