I am trying to print a set of labels.
My problem is that when I insert the correct fields, some seem to be
underlined with a faint dotted line. This obviously signifies something but
I am dammed if I can figure out what it is.
Invariably it seems to be the first field on each line of the label.
Can someone please tell me what this faint dotted line signifies.

It is probably a smart tag - Tools > autocorrect options > smart tags

If it is a smart tag then it is simply telling you that it is a smart tag.
If you hover the mouse over it a smart tag will give you a small box with an
exclamation mark. You can access the smart tag options from it.
