I am having a problem with mailmerging in Word 6.0a. I hope this is the
right place to ask?
I have included the filename field in my mailmerge master document. The idea
is that this will get carried over to the new merged document, and print the
name of the *new document* on the page. The problem I have is that during
the mailmerge process this field gets replaced by the name of the master
document. I have tried it both with and without the update fields on
printing box ticked in options.
This is not quite the place to ask this question as the field I am having
trouble with is not strictly a mailmerge field, but hopefully you won't all
mind too much.
Thanks
Geoff

Sorry - I should have Googled FIRST.
FWIW, the answer appears to be (as provided by Peter Jamieson):-
Not that I know of, but what you can do is:
a. create another document (e.g. fn.doc
b. put your { filename \p } field in there
c. put an { INCLUDETEXT "c:\\whatever\\fn.doc" } field in your mail merge
main document.
The includetext field is preserved during the merge, and when you update the
fields post-merge, fortunately the FILENAME field returns the file name of
the containing document, not "fn.doc".
Sorry to have wasted your bandwidth
Geoff
Hi Geoff
If you open headers and footers and use the toolbar Insert
Auto text - Filename, this should then show the filename
of the Merged document. However I am trying this in Word
2003 and it is not working!
