Merge data formatting

Trying to take data from an Excel Data source in currency
format and get the $ and commas to appear in the merged
document.

I am using Excel 2002 and Word 2002.  I have been
successful with a worksheet created by someone else but
not my own and can not see the differences.

Any ideas?
