When I mail merge in word2002 from excel 2002 using a
list of various inputs in the postcode field if there is
no value there it seems to place a zero into the mail
merge which I do not want. After experimenting with
word2000 and excell 2000 I have noticed that the zero
value will not be placed in the document if zero values
are deselected from the options menu in excel. A work
around for this when using word 2002 and excel 2002 is to
save as a csv file but this is just a bandaid solution -
can anyone help?

Hi Malcolm,
You could try adding a numeric picture switch like:
\# 0000;0000;
to your mergefield, using as many 0s as necessary to deal with any postcodes
that might start with 0. Numeric switches take three formatting arguments:
+ve;-ve; and 0. Leaving th last argument empty tells Word to hide 0 results.
Cheers
