Excel Date Field format in Mail Merge MSWord 2002

I am trying to merge Excel Data into a table in Word.
Whilst the data comes through ok, it changes the date
format from British 19/11/04 to 11/19/04.

Any ideas on how to stop this happening.

Also, once correct, how do I get it to show as 19th
November 2004?
