Is there any way to remove the spaces after the $ in a
formatted number mergefield?

I have a mergefield formatted as /# $#,###,###.00 and if
the number does not fill all the place holders Word uses
spaces.
For example if I have the number 4567.89
 I get $   4,567.89
What I would like to see is $4,567.89 with the numbers
starting right after the dollar sign.  I know that in
some programming languages you can use the < sign to move
numbers left; such as $<,<<<,<<<.00 as a format picture.
Does Word have anything like this?
Thanks
Steve

It is not necessary to have the complete formatting string.

See "Formatting Word fields with switches" on fellow MVP Graham Mayor's
website at
