mail merge works great but all the numbers from excel
lose their formating.  They go from $1,000,000 to 1000000

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I never had this
problem with my older version of Word or Excel?

See http://www.gmayor.com/formatting_word_fields.htm

Press Alt+F9 to toggle on the display of field codes and add the \#
"$,0.00;($0.00)" switch inside the closing field delimiter }

I have rewritten the preamble to the page Doug recommended. See if you have
any more luck with it.
