Mail merge woes

This has been bugging me for years. I hope someone can tell me than I
am daft and that I should be doing this or that (just regarding this
problem I mean :-) ).  I do a lot of Mail merging and Word 2002 is a
disaster. If you need to insert multiple fields from a data source
into a document, you must first open the "Insert Merge Field", choose
a field, and then click "Insert". As it is a modal window, you cannot
reposition the cursor without first closing the window and you cannot
select multiple fields. Choosing a new field without closing the
window just places it immediately after the previous field. The newest
Word apparently works the same way. The Word '97 way was by far the
easiest. At least the dropdown menu of fields closed automatically.
Does anyone else have a problem with this, or is it just me?

Thanks,
Gerry.

I agree with you completely. In the Mail merge FAQ on my website, Word
2002 section, you'll find
   - links to how you can get the old stuff back
   - how you can, using VBA, create your own UserForm that works the
way the built-in dialog ought
