Template and multiple parameter query prompts

I saved my mail merge main document as a template.  When I
create a new document based on the template, the Microsoft
Access parameter query prompts me TWICE, once for the
template and once for the new document.  How can I create
the document with it only prompting me ONE TIME?

Version of Word?

Is Access also opening twice? How do you know it's the
template that's causing the second prompt?

Cindy,

Thanks for your reply.  Word version 2000.

Access (version 2000) IS opening twice when I open a new
document in Word using the template. I didn't realize
that - but still I don't know what to do about it.

I am guessing that the reason for the prompt is once for
template and once for document, since when I open the
template only (using file, open), it only prompts me once.
Also, when I open the template, Access only opens once.

Right, thanks for confirming this. What you're running into
is a common problem, unfortunately, that has to do with the
DDE connection required to use parameter queries. Word
actually carries on a "coversation" with the Access
application interface. And if it can't "recogize" Access's
presence, it will open Access and the data base again each
time it "telephones".

One common cause of this is changing the Access title bar to
show a more "friendly" name than "Microsoft Access". Did you
do this, by any chance?

Cindy,

Thanks for continuing with me on this.  That was helpful.
I changed the title_bar for the database back
to "Microsoft Access".  Now it no longer opens twice,
however, it still prompts me twice for the parameter, once
when the template opens and once when the document opens.

Any other thoughts?

Lyn

Hi Lwyatt,

Are you the only person who's going to be using this? Or is
this a group or company thing? And is there any policy about
using macros? (I'm trying to guage "security" vs. "ease of
use")

Cindy,

I am creating this for several other people to use.  Ease
of use is our current concern.

There is no policy about using macros.

Thanks for your continued help.

I'm sorry, "real life" got extremely busy here, a few weeks
ago, and I'm only just beginning to catch up in the
newsgroups. Are you still here and looking for help on this?
