Need an incrementing field for labels

I have a user who has mailing labels. In Word Perfect, he
could specify a "starting value" for a specific field
(which would appear on the mailing label). Think of it as
an "index number" for example. This number would then
auto-increment for every individual label in the print-run.

How can I accomplish this in Word?

Graham, thatnks. That's a great solution, as far as it
goes. But what if the person has a data-source already
defined (such as an Access table)? Is there a way to use
MULTIPLE data sources? If not, could Access or Excel be
utilized effectively to solve that issue?

For example, what if you have an Access table with 500
names/addresses. Now you need to add an incrementing number
to the bottom of each label? How could that be done?

You cannot merge from two data sources. You can, however, use a SEQ field on
the label to add an incrementing number. If you add the field eg {SEQ Label}
to the field it will increment starting from 1.
You can incorporate such a number in a Formula field to create a different
sequence or combine with text for serial numbers etc.
