When i mail merge a document only the first word in a
field preserves the style formatting. All other words get
the 'normal' style.
This happens even if the field has the 'preserve
formatting' option turned on...

Is there a workaround this problem?

If you add a \* CHARFORMAT switch to the formfield and apply the desired
formatting to the M of Mergefield, then it will be applied to the whole of
the field.
