I use gmayer's great tutorial on merging pictures from a database into a WORD document.  I tried to save the main (template) document so I could use it for later merges and the whole structure went away.  I also get a "Word will insert data from your SQL query..." when I try to reopen the document.

How do I save the pristine template document?

I am not sure what you mean by the "whole structure went away", but for the
SQL business, see this Knowledge Base article
