We have a series of documents that we need to print,
however, date fields were used in all these documents, so
when we print them, they all show the current date.

Is there a way to prevent the date field from
automatically updating when you open the document?

Alternatively, is there a way to print documents so that
they show the original dates?

Michelle,

Open the document, select the date field, right click and
toggle field code, change DATE to CREATEDATE, select and
update field.  The date will now display the date that
your computer thinks the document was created.  If the
format changes, you may need to applied a date picture
switch. For example, if July 29, 2004 becomes 19 September
2001, 5:05 a.m. then toggle the field again and apply
{ CREATEDATE \@ "MMMM dd, yyyy" }.  To covert the field to
permanent text, select and press CTRL+SHIFT+F9
