How to attach a file to a Word document that is being merged to email?

Is it possible to attach a file to a Word document that is
being merged to email? I have tried to insert a file in
the word doc and insert and object into the word doc, but
they both say they are inserted pictures and not a PDF
file.

Any ideas?
