Labels: Stop "NEXT RECORD" auto-insert?

I want to create a document of labels in which each page contains a
page of identical labels from one record and the next page displays
another page of identical labels from the next record, and so on.

However, if I delete all the NEXT RECORD fields apart from the last on
the page and then run the mail merge, Word automatically puts all the
NEXT RECORD fields back into each cell of the label template, despite
my not wanting them there!

Any ideas how to stop Word from doing this or work around the problem?

Hi Chris

I think that the only reason that would happen is because you have hit the
replicate labels button. Executing the merge will not cause it to happen.
Also note that you do not need a <<Next Record>> field anywhere on the main
document. Word automatically switches records at the end of the sheet.

The alternative method is to use the label wizard to create a new document
(a blank table) and then use this as the basis for a form letter merge. Put
your fields in the first cell then select and copy the cell to the
clipboard, select the table then paste the clipboard back to fill all the
cells - merge away!

Thanks for your replies.

I assure you that I didn't press the PROPAGATE button if that's what
Doug meant by the 'replicate labels button'. The fact is that the NEXT
RECORD field is automatically propagated to all the labels except the
first when I run the merge even if I've deleted them.

Since then I have found the answer, it seems. If I press ALT-F9 to
toggle all the field codes and then delete the undesired NEXT RECORD
fields this automatic propagation does not occur, thus allowing me to
create duplicate labels.

I had the same problem (Word insisting on inserting the
next record coding after I deleted them multiple times)
and finally solved it by copying the first label's fields
and pasting them in all of the other labels. I don't know
why, but it worked.
