MS Office Forum / Word / Mailmerge and Fax / September 2004Merge and Save
I merge a document from my data in Word XP Pro and then format/edit the merged document and then save and close it. When I go to re-open the document Word prompts me to re-merge the data and if it does, then I lost all my edits and formatting of the merged areas. Also, when I open the document in a lower version of Word, the same thing happens without a prompt to re-merge. Anyway of saving the merged new document so there is no more merging to it from the data source? It sounds as if you are not actually executing the merge, just looking at what the result would be in the mailmerge main document.
