Mail merge format of numbers from excel.

When I perform a mail merge from an excel data set, all information comes
over fine with the exception of numbers.  Numbers that include decimals,
even though they show up as two decimal in the excel spread sheet are
carried out almost 10 places.  How do I correct this?
