I want to create a mail merge document, but I do not want to supress the
blank lines.  Is checkbox I can "un-check" to achieve this, or do I need to
use an "If/then" statement in the document.

There is a checkbox, in the pre-Word 2002 mail merge interface. You can still
get to these commands and bring them into your menus/toolbars. See the Mail
merge FAQ on my website, Word 2002/2003 section, entry at the end of the
topics list.
