I wish to sent a Form Letter, which has been setup with Mail Merge Fields,
to my clients by Email, and have ther First Name automatically insterted in
the Subject Line.

Using a modification of the technique in the article "Mail Merge to E-mail
with Attachments" at

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MailMerge/MergeWithAttachments.htm

you could do that.  You would include the First Name in the catalog type
mailmerge and grab it from the cell in which it is located so that it
appears in the subject line.

To clarify my requirement.
I am using Word 2000 and Outlook 2000, running under Small Businesss Server
2000.
I wish to send a brief message to my Clients, NOT an attachement, with
embedded Mail Marge Fields.
This I have done successfully, but NOT with say the recipients First Name in
the Subject line.
However, thanks for your prompt reply.

As I said, the procedure will need modification!

(a)  So that it does not add attachments

(b)  So that it picks up the recipients First Name for the catalog mailmerge
for use as the subject of each email that is sent out.

If you do not want to modify that procedure, you will have to write your
own.
