"This method or property is not available because the document is not a mail
merge main document."

document is a mergemail template produced in Word 2000 which links to a text
file produced from within Access XP (in this case).  The documents work
fine, then suddenly one day, they stop and produce the above error message.
The mailmerge toolbar in Word 2003 when used to look at this template is
"greyed out".  What is the cause of this problem?  Anyone - ideas?

If the problem occurred when you moved to Word 2003, it is probably because
Word 2003 has either
a. not successfully converted the merge data source info. (there have been
substantial changes in this area between Word 2000 and 2003 as you probably
know) or
b. failed to connect because of the new SQL security dialog (which it does
not display when you automate it) that is described in

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;825765

Even if it occurred some time after you moved to 2003, I would still look at
those possibilities. However, another possibility is that the template has
been /saved/ and Word has lost its connection information as a consequence
of a Word error (e.g. this tends to happen if you have added filter criteria
to an merge from Access).
