When I select an Outlook Contact List Folder while in Word Mail Merge, I get
the following error, "This operation cannot be completed because of dialog or
database engine failures. Please try again later."

Is there a way to get around this error?

I suggest you try initiating your merge from Outlook (in Outlook, select a
contact folder, then use Outlook's Tools|Mail Merge).

There is a KB article for Word 2002 on this at

but they have not actually identified the cause of this problem in the
article. You might find out more in an Outlook group.
