How can I change my settings so that I can see the outline of lab.

When I want to make labels, I cannot see where the labels are on the screen,
so I don't know where to begin typing to make a specific label.  Is there
something within my settings that I need to change?  I am using Word 2003.  
In earlier versions, there was an outline around the labels.
