I am trying to create a mail merge document that contains text and drop down
form fields.  My problem is ... once I insert the merge information and merge
to a new document the text form fields disappear.  The other problem is that
once I lock the document so that I can TAB between the fields the MERGe
fields are also locked and I cannot input that information.

The two features that you are trying to use are mutually exclusive.  You
will have to find another way of achieve what you want.  I would suggest
having all of the variable data in the datasource that is used for the
mailmerge.
