MS Office Forum / Word / Mailmerge and Fax / November 2004Conversion of Word Document to fax file
I am trying to use the Fax-on-demand feature of Talkworks 3 from Symantec. When it comes to adding my documents which are Microsoft Word documents, the program has to convert them to fax files. When it attempts to do this, I get the error message "Ambiguous Name detected tmp DDE" and the Microsoft Word schreen goes black or dark gray. The hour glass comes up telling me to wait, but for an unusually long time, forever. What is the problem here and how can I fix it? The macros included with Talkworks are not compatible with Word 2003, and were never very good with earlier versions either. I have some other problems that I need help with. Symantec is nolonger suppporting this program although it is very good. I need it because of its faxback feature. No other fax program is offering this feature that I know of. Can you direct me someone who is familiar with this program? Back to the problem. I set the program up[ on another computer with a US Robotics modem and everything worked superb. The Microsoft Word document I used for faxback converted to a fax file just fine. I switched to another computer with a different modem from eBay (it is a Rockwell voice chipset that works fine elsewise) and this conversion of Word document to fax files when I'm trying to add documents to FOD gave me the error message, "Ambiguous Name detected tmpDDE." The second problem is not as menacing. When someone requests a fax back document from my computer, it shows up in the log as a fax document created but without the requesting person's phone number. This is different from Winfax 8.0, which clearly showed the faxback request and fax number of the requesting line. To know the fax number of the requesting line is very important to me as I receive calls from newspaper ads. Can you direct me to any sites with knowledgable persons like yourslef that can answer these questions? I regret I cannot help with this. It is not a Word issue. Back to the Word issue of documents being converted to fax files. I forgot to mention that I am not using Word 2003, I am using Word 2000 under Windows 98. The mechanism of sending faxes from Word is that of 'printing' to an appropriate driver. Word is very fussy about printer drivers which it uses to format the document. It seems that this particular driver is not 100% compatible hence the problems.
