How do I insert elements that MS does not automatically put into the address
block? I know how to insert fields into my document, but not into the address
block. Say, for instance that I wanted some sort of ID number to show up
underneath each addressee's name. How would I do that? Thank you.

You wouldn't use the address block.

The address block only recognizes a certain set of field names. You could use
the field mapping ("Match fields") to assign the ID field to a field the address
block recognizes. The trickier part is making sure it's included as part of the
AddressBlock.

Microsoft doesn't recommend you edit the AddressBlock field code. But you can
use Alt+F9 to toggle on the codes and edit it.
