One of the fields of my mail merge is the amount paid.  Even though I've
formatted the excel spreadsheet to currency and two decimal places.  Word is
showing it as 295 instead of 295.00 and if there are cents in the data base,
it shows it as 295.359999.  Any ideas how to fix this?

Use a formatting switch on the field -
