Is it possible to set a default in the File Open dialogue box so that "All
Files (*.*)" is the default?

Hi =?Utf-8?B?S2FyZW5T?=,

File Open dialog box, or "Open Data source"? Assuming the latter (as it makes
more sense) try this:

Sub TestOpenDataSource()
   SendKeys "*.*{Enter}"
   With Dialogs(wdDialogMailMergeOpenDataSource)
       '.Name = "*.*" 'No effect
       .Show
   End With
End Sub
