How do I concatenate strings in Mailmerge expressions?

I'd like to be able to put, say,

" ("&<<somefield>>&")"

in the "true" part of a mailmerge if-then-else, but "&" doesn't seem to work
as a string concatenation operator there. Did I fumble the syntax, or is
there another way to go about that?

"UpTooLate", indeed.

Trying it this morning, things seem to work fine with, simply,

"(<<somefield>>)", i.e. no need for a separate operator to concatenate the
strings "(" and ")" with the value of the mergefield.

Thanks to the examples in unrelated postings!

Cheers.
