How can I mail merge a 'Protected' document?

I am trying to mail merge a document that is 'protected' but since it's
protected, Word disables the toolbars and with it the ability to enter
addresses...any idea how can I mail merge without turning off the 'Protect
Document' feature?

The two features are not compatible.  It's a case of one or the other.
