I am using Office 2003 - when I merge with an Excel database, and then go to
the Mail Merge Recipients to edit it, the Edit button is greyed out.  Am I
missing something?

Any advice appreciated.

You are not missing anything that all other users of Word 2003 are missing
to a greater or lesser extent.  I you want to edit the data source, in your
case, use Excel.
