I want to type addresses of vendors with whom I have accounts and be able to
randomly select one or more to be printed as envelopes without losing the
addresses one I print the envelopes.

Create an envelope template and use that to make new documents that are
envelopes. Then save the documents; I save mine in a folder named
"Envelopes." If you have trouble with this, take a look on Graham Mayor's
site. He has templates you can download.
