How can I retain the Access format in a word merge document?

i.e data format in Access is 'Currency' when merged to Word the currency
format is lost. same applys to 'Date' formats.

Use formatting switches in the Word field for the simplest approach -
http://www.gmayor.com/formatting_word_fields.htm
If you want the more complicated approach see the Excel data section of
http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_labels_with_word_xp.htm  (the issues and
workarounds are the same for Access).
