I am merging data from Excel 2002 and the field that is merged into Word 2002
is truncated.  Does the mail merge field have a field size of 250 characters?
If so, is there any way to to override this limitation?

Some types of data connection will have this effect, yes. Try using a DDE
connection to the data and see if that makes any difference. Activate "Confirm
conversions on open" in Tools/Options/General, then link to the Excel workbook
again. You should get a list, from which you can select DDE.
