Memo field truncated in mailmerge

I have a mailmerge with a memo field that seems to be truncated at about 255
characters when it merges.  I actually think the Access query that sends the
merge data to it is truncating the field.  Has anyone any suggestions why
this may be happening?

TIA

Which version of Office is this (including SP! - look in the Help/About if you
don't know)?

Do you know which data connection method you're using to link the mail merge to
Access?

No SP? Then that explains the problem. Office 2000, original release, had a
top character number of 255 for text coming through mail merge. SP-1 or SP-2
(can't remember which) changed that (at least for an ODBC connection) to
32,000+ characters.
