How do I keep English date format when using mail merge?

When using Excel and Access as the data file and merging into Word the date
format changes from English to US.  How can I stop this and retain the
English format?

{MERGEFIELD MYDATE \@ "dddd, dd MMMM yyyy"}

Insert the Merge Field and then edit it, show that is look like above
