Printing mailmerge envelopes

My Brother HL-1440 printer used to print mailmerge envelopes as fast as I
could feed them, using Word 2000 and Windows XP Home Edition. Now, using the
same data list with Windows XP Professional and Word 2003, it pauses for some
15 seconds between each envelope, turning the job into a marathon. What am I
doing wrong?

Under Tools>Options>Print, is the Background Printing item checked? If it
is not, check that box and see if it makes a difference.
