I have full access to someone else's contacts and can do a mail merge with
these contacts from within Outlook; however, if I'm starting my mail merge in
Word, I can only view MY own contacts.  Is there a way to change this?

Probably not.  Our advice to anyone wanting to use Outlook as a datasource
is to initiate the merge from Outlook as it gives you far greater control
and the ability to select fields other than those that are available when
the merge is performed from Word.

See the "Mailmerge from Outlook" item on fellow MVP Graham Mayor's website

Hope this helps.
