Hi,

I have a problem with my mail merge doc and cannot go any
further without some help.  My data source is in Access
and I am using Word & Access ver 2000.

I have many chunks of text & fields of text to enter

Using fields from the data source i need to change the
text in the letter dependent on their values.

If the value in field 1 >0 and fields 2,3,4 and 5 = 0 then
enter text "Rule 2"

If the value in field 1 >0, field 2 >0 , fields 3,4,5=0
then enter text of "Rule 2"

Then it gets even more tricky.......

If the values of fields 3 & 4 > 0 then show
[field 3] & "text inbetween" & [field 4]

this continues with mixtutes of 4, 4 & 5, 5, 6

I am soooo stuck. I have tried reading some of the
newsgroup items on Mergefields and Compare Merge fields
but I just don't understand them and the help system is
very unhelpful.

Thanks very much for your time.

Kez.

Hi Kerry Ann,

Access is a far better program for manipulating data than Word.  As a
result, I would use a query in Access to do the manipulation rather than try
and do it in Word using If Then Else fields.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested.  Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps

Hi Doug

Thanks for the advice - i did think of that but, the
different criteria is required to customise text into the
letter/main doc not back into the data source.  I don't
know what to do in access as it will still have to feed
into word eventually to create the mail merge doc.

Thanks very much.

Hi Kerry,

You would create a Query in Access and use that as the datasource for the
mailmerge.
