Word 2003 Mail Merge

Having trouble formatting merged data field.  I edited the field code, chose
the picture switch that should give me $##,###.##, but after I merge, the
numbers are not what should be in that field, i.e. what should be $300.00 is
$1,054.00??????

What switch did you use?

It should be \# ",$0.00"

Actually, what worked was:

\# "$,0.00"
