Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of characters a merge
field name can be? Also if that has changed from older versions of Word to
newer versions of Word? For example I've had some users who were using
something like this:

«CD_Listingspurchaser_solicitor_address1»

and now have to use a shorter version like this:

«CD_Listingspurch_sol_addr1»

Many thanks,
Andrew

Why do they have to use a shorter version? Are they getting an error?

Yes - it says the merge field can't be found and prompts you to replace it
with another merge field from the list.

Then likely the data source file headings were changed, that's all.

They weren't by us, but Microsoft Word starts to truncate them for some
reason in some versions of Word but they are fine in other versions, which
made we ask what is the limit on the number of characters for a merge field.
Do you know the answer to this?

Thanks,
Andrew

I'm sorry. I never heard of any such thing.
