Why won't address labels created in mail merge come in centered?

When the labels appear they are not centered but upper left justified.  When
using the cell alignment feature the address becomes centered buy remains at
the top of the label rather than the center.

Are you sure that you do not have extra carriage returns or that the
paragraph is not formatted with space after it.
