How do I position the label when merging XLS data to post cards?

I am using WOrd 2000.

I need to print mailing address on postcards which are printed 4-up,
landscape. Running through the instructions in the Help file, merge works,
but the printing location is arbitrarily chosen by the program-- and is in
the wrong place.

I tried putting the merge fields inside a text box-- but Word would not let
that work.

How can I move the merge data to where I need it on the cards?

Format the paragraph in which the mergefields are located with the indents
and space before that are required to put it in the position that YOU want.

Hope this helps.
