I have a form template that has merge fields, text form fields, and check box
fields. I have the shaded option on for the text form fields and check box
fields. When the database software calls up this particular template, it
floods in the merge field data. It then has the check boxes shaded, but the
text form fields are not shaded. The users do not know where to go to type in
the additional information. Is there a setting that will allow the generated
merged document to keep the shaded text form fields so that users know where
to go to enter information? Thank You!

No, the two features are not compatible.
