I have a Word file that has data merged from an Excel spreadsheet...when
I open the Word file, the merged data has a grey background...how do I
change the background to white?

And if you press Alt+F9, I would bet that you see things like { MERGEFIELD
fieldname }.  That indicates that you have not actually executed the merge,
but are simply previewing the results in the mergefields.

If you execute the merge, there will be no fields to display the
highlighting.

You can however turn of the field highlighting (probably not recommended for
you) via Tools>Options>View.

Hope this helps.
