I believe I have the merge fields and link put together
properly (as per your earlier documents).  However, I saw
in your earlier documents (on inserting pictures --
though I have use the excel8.chart) that it may be
necessary to update the fields after the merge.

So far I have been having to do the F9 to update the
fields which isn't a problem for a mailing.  However, if
I am doing an email merge -- I won't have an opportunity
to do this update before the email goes out, right?

Any thoughts?

Hi Scott,

You didn't reply in an on-going thread, but I think I know
which one this appends to...

That's an important bit of information you left out of your
original question. No, there's no way to force the necessary
field update when merging to email (HTML format, I assume).

This means you'd need to do the email processing using code.
And what's available to you depends mightily on the version
of Word involved. Basically, you'd either need to pull the
merge result document apart, or do something similar to #2
in my original reply (send a copy of each merge result, from
the main merge doc).

You'll find code to do the former on my website. you'd need
to add the "send to email" part to it, but OTOH you wouldn't
necessarily need to save the result.

A slightly different approach has been posted by Doug
Robbins on the mvps.org/word site, and that one contains
some information on how to do the emailing.
